Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) is calling on Gladstone locals and visitors to vote for their favourite artworks in the 48th Rio Tinto and QAL Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards, hosted at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.

With 272 artworks on display, created by established and emerging artists Australia wide, the exhibition is recognised as one of Queensland’s most prestigious regional art events and is eagerly anticipated each year.

While viewing the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to vote on their favourite artworks by entering the QAL People’s Choice Awards and go in the draw to win a $1,000 AUD travel gift voucher, redeemable at Helloworld Travel. The artists who receive the most community votes in each of the four voting categories (Easel Works, Works on Paper, Three Dimensions & Fibre Works, and Digital Works) will also receive a $500 AUD cash prize.

QAL Acting General Manager, Trent Scherer said, “The QAL People’s Choice Awards provides an opportunity for our community to vote on pieces of artwork they feel were standouts.

“I encourage everyone to vote by scanning the QR codes or use the iPad kiosk at the exhibition in the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.
“The artwork on display tells a story about our local community through the lenses of Traditional Owners, long-time locals, first-time visitors, and the next generation.

“QAL are proud to be long-term supporters of the exhibition, which showcases culture, talent, and diversity in our region.

“Thank you and congratulations to the team at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum for their hard work in curating another fantastic exhibition and enhancing our unique arts and culture scene in Gladstone.”

Voting for the QAL People’s Choice Awards closes at 2pm, Saturday 20 January 2024. Winners will be announced on the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum’s website and social media platforms on 27 January 2024.
