Our products

QAL specialises in the production of alumina, which is distributed in Australia and internationally to create aluminium metal products.

Bauxite

Bauxite is an aluminium ore and the main source of aluminium. Bauxite is refined into alumina using a chemical process called the Bayer process. Australia is the top producer of bauxite worldwide. QAL’s bauxite is mined in Weipa, in far north Queensland and shipped over 2000 kilometres south to Gladstone.

Alumina

Alumina is the common name for the compound, aluminium oxide or Al2O3. Alumina appears as an inert, non-toxic, odour-less, taste-less, fine, white, abrasive sand and it is extracted from bauxite using the Bayer process. QAL produces smelter-grade alumina which is supplied to smelters locally and around the world to be turned into aluminium metal.

Aluminium

QAL produces smelter-grade alumina which is supplied to smelters locally and around the world to be turned into aluminium metal. Aluminium has a unique combination of properties that can be utilised through alloying. It is a particularly durable material as well as being lightweight and corrosion resistant.
